"Publius Quintilius Varus, BRING BACK MY LEGIONS!"

2 things for the battle, no storm/rain and Varus believes Segestes!

Oh! Wait,
If that had happened no battle.....Arminius would be dying on a cross and his alliance would have disintegrated.

Be interesting to redo this, back in the day I tried refighting "Clades Variana" several times, that and Andrianople seemed to be the "standard" Roman battle that organisers liked to set up.
I never won a game, I was always tabled. Its an impossibly hard fight for the Romans, unless you can play only a small part of the battle with a small part of each army, say as a cohort or an alia on the second day trying a fighting withdrawl against an equivalent points German army.
Soaked shields and bowstrings, green troops, bad day for civilisation

I am amazed at how many real historical battles are uphill slogs for the winners.

Most of  the Roman battles in Gaul are really hard to win.  Julius must have had some really good dice throws.

I can put on enough stuff to game the The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest if anyone is interested I might put it on next week.

We need someone with a long beard to play Augustus for the aftermath though.

It all depends on your outlook on civilisation, whether it was bad or good.  I prefer smaller less known battles at the close of the Empire.  But hay a Roman is a Roman so I am sure we can do something interesting in the forests next time.

Hi folks,

That's the list up to date for table bookings.

However... can I ask that general conversation be kept to the General discussions in the future please.  The idea of these topics is for booking tables or for organising games.  As it stands now people asking for games is getting lost amongst the chatter and so might be missed.

Don't get me wrong, I love the enthusiasm!  But try and make other topics elsewhere.

Thank you  Smile

Hey guys. Just an apology for not making it last night. My cat wasn't well and had to take him to the vet. Hear the battle went ahead anyway so all is good I hope?!

No probs Yans. Hope the cat is okay

All went well for your side with my vamps doing absolutely nothing except dying and Torsten's cannons unable to hit a barn door at 4 paces. But it was an enjoyable game non the less lol

No worries, sorry you couldn't make it! Had an awesome time, absolutely hilarious despite or because of the aforementioned result.
And I still maintain that my cannons hit that cursed daemon prince 3 frickin times. Just turned out he wasn't too bothered...
